The Piping Assembler – UPW Systems is responsible for the assembly, installation, and maintenance of ultra pure water (UPW) and industrial water treatment piping systems. This role supports manufacturing and field operations by ensuring piping systems are built to specification, meet clean system standards, and operate reliably in high purity applications. The position requires precision work with stainless steel, PVC, and polypropylene (PP) piping systems, as well as the ability to interpret detailed piping and instrumentation drawings. Follow all safety, quality, and 5S/lean manufacturing standards in the shop and field.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assemble and install UPW piping systems, including PVC, PP, and stainless-steel components, valves, and fittings.
- Read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, and general arrangement drawings to determine piping layout and assembly requirements.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and work instructions.
- Perform clean assembly practices required for high-purity water systems (e.g., contamination control, proper handling of materials).
- Measure, cut, thread, bend, and fit pipe components using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.
- Fabricate piping assemblies using methods such as welding, solvent bonding, or mechanical connections as required.
- Troubleshoot and repair piping issues, leaks, or misalignments in assembled systems.
- Conduct pressure and leak testing to verify system integrity and compliance with specifications
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area (5S).
- All other duties as assigned.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certificate.
- Trade school certification, plumbing/pipefitting apprenticeship, or equivalent experience (preferred).
- 1–5+ years of experience in:
- Industrial piping or plumbing.
- Mechanical assembly or fabrication.
- Water treatment or process piping systems (preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Assembly drawings and blueprints.
- Experience working with high-purity piping materials (PVC, PP, stainless steel).
- Knowledge of pipe fabrication techniques:
- Cutting, threading, bending, fitting.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Understanding of industrial safety standards and installation practices.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Experience with UPW or high-purity water systems.
- Stainless steel tubing and hygienic piping experience.
- Welding or plastic fusion (PP/PVDF) experience.
- Familiarity with instrumentation (flow meters, sensors, valves, VFD-driven pumps).
- Experience supporting field installation or service work.
