Design Technicians will support electric distribution and substation projects by producing design packages based on requested maps, client standards, and project requirements. Work will include distribution design related to utility infrastructure and adjacent systems such as water, storm drainage, and sewer, particularly where projects interface with large substation environments.
The Design Technician I role is intended for candidates with foundational experience who can perform tasks with guidance, while the Design Technician II role is intended for candidates with increased independence, stronger technical judgment, and prior PECO or electric distribution experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop electric distribution and related utility designs based on requested maps and project requirements.
- Produce and modify design drawings using MicroStation (primary design platform).
- Support large‑scale infrastructure projects, including major substation initiatives.
- Apply PECO standards, specifications, and design criteria to project work.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure design accuracy and completeness.
- Review project inputs and translate them into constructible design documents.
- Maintain organized design files and documentation in accordance with project standards.
- Support multiple projects simultaneously while meeting schedules and quality expectations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Design Technician I:
- Typically 1–3 years of relevant experience in electric utility design or drafting.
- Design Technician II:
- Typically 3+ years of electric distribution design experience.
- Prior PECO project experience strongly preferred.
- Strong experience using MicroStation (primary requirement).
- Electric distribution experience required.
- Familiarity with substation projects and utility coordination is a plus.
- Experience working with utility base maps and creating designs from provided data.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team‑oriented mindset.
- Detail‑oriented with the ability to follow established standards and processes.
